Let the games begin! My goal is to get the device in neat condition, try to get it working and learn about the engineering of the device. For reverse engineering I've probably have to make some sacrifices like removing tie-wraps from the wire harness. But I guess that are minor sacrifices. I don't have the intention of cutting wires and redesigning the electronics (for now). Probably it'll take a lot of time, but I'm looking forward to the fun!

Luckily Erik Baigar from Germany did very impressive reverse engineering on several Tornado fighter jet equipment. He found out the connections of the main connector. With his information its possible to power up the device and use it. This makes my 'reverse engineering' much easier since the hardest part is already done by Erik!
The main connector is connector "A" as shown below. It's a 100 pin Amphenol circulator military connector. There are a very large number of varieties of these connectors. There's only one thing in common: they're very expensive... I'll try to find a plug for the device, but I guess I have to connect the display unit only by using the contacts instead of the original plug. The connectors are very well built and industry standard for quality devices.

powersupply Erik Baigar found out the mandatory power signals for powering up the device:
connector | pin | function | specifications | A | 67 | keyboard/illumination power | +28 VDC | A | 46 | keyboard/illumination power | 28 VDC return | A | 65 | powersupply | 208 VAC 400 Hz (1/3 phase) | A | 66 | powersupply | 208 VAC 400 Hz (2/3 phase) | A | 67 | powersupply | 208 VAC 400 Hz (3/3 phase) | A | 75 | powersupply | (mandatory!) neutral of 3-phase pins 65, 66 and 67 |
